In the effort to balance to balance Connecticut’s books, Matt Lesser’s butt is planted firmly on the pine. Consider recent developments within his own party. A gaggle of “moderate” Democrats sent party leaders a letter urging them to take action on the state’s financial problems, writing “we need solutions NOW that do not exacerbate the problems that loom for the foreseeable future.” Guess whose name was missing from the list? You guessed it, uber-liberal Lesser. Perhaps he was busy preparing for his Berkley, California-inspired forum on solar panels this week. Or maybe he chose his allegiance to party leaders over hitting the hardwood for taxpayers in the district he represents. Foul!
Matt Lesser, it seems, is more concerned with getting you to cover other people’s health care costs than watching out for legislation affecting his district. The worst part? He doesn’t think you know what’s going on. These days, Lesser is bragging about his heroic effort to rewrite regulations that hurt the Durham Fair. But the doe-eyed freshman best-known around the Capitol for his ill-fitting suits has stopped short of telling you the entire story. Turns out that, according to a report in the Middletown Press, Lesser put his John Hancock on the very proposal he’s swooping in to fix. Does he think we have funnel cakes for brains? Well, your state representative is at it again. Matt Lesser has employed the tried-and-true re-election tactic of telling his constituents about everything except the one thing that truly affects their lives: Government. Yes, Connecticut remains in the throes of a serious fiscal crisis. But if you’d never know it after a conversation with Lesser. Over the last couple of weeks, the upstart legislator has taken every opportunity to pat himself on the back: He got a helicopter ride, met with Sierra Club, campaigned for tax-happy Democrats and even participated in a spelling bee. No word on whether he won. But as Lesser mined for new Election Day supporters, Connecticut sunk deeper in the doldrums of deficit. Thanks to the Democrat budget Lesser eagerly supported, our state sits in at least $600 million of red ink. Connecticut’s unemployment fund is dried up. Read the rest of this entry »

Seems as though your state representative is more concerned about his political career than justice. At the tail end of the state budget debate Matt Lesser supported a bill that expands the lists of reasons a prisoner might be eligible for a furlough. Shocking, considering all the news media tells us about recidivism. The legislation means more inmates will be eligible to leave prison 45 days early instead of the 30-day furlough that was already in place. Lackey legislator Lesser consistently voted the way party leadership wanted him to, no matter how it impacted folks in his district. Unfortunately, boot-kissing is how you climb the ladder at the Democrat-controlled Capitol.

In his short time as a legislator Matt Lesser is a quick study. In a matter of months he’s perfected the art of spinning numbers to make them work for his benefit. We shouldn’t give him too much credit, though. Democrats have controlled the legislature for roughly three decades, enough time for leadership to build a well-oiled assembly line that pushes out pandering party puppets who spend your money in Hartford and return home to tell you they didn’t. Take a recent editorial (details below) penned by freshman Lesser, Your state representative told readers that he recently voted to cut spending. Really, Matt? Cut spending? Not so fast. Unfortunately for Lesser, he took office a year-or-so too late. For months majority lawmakers at the national level have plotted so-called “reforms” that would push our c0untry toward its financial red zone, and that’s something that worries millions of Americans. You’re state representative took time from his not-so-busy schedule recently to catch up with his new BFF, embattled Sen. Chris Dodd. The longtime senator was in Fairfield to promote the federal stimulus program, though the media quickly saw the event for what it was: A political stunt designed to prop up the fast-sinking Dodd. Freshman state Rep. Matt Lesser, giddy as a teen on prom night, showed up to fight through the scrum of tax-and-spend lawmakers there to give their senatorial buddy a slap on the back. Lesser did his best to position himself to shake hands with Dodd, who stood on the opposite side of a metal barrier. Alas, Lesser was unable to connect with political idol. Times are tough and money is tight in households across Connecticut. Despite that fact the Democrats in the legislature insisted on a record tax and increase of $1.42 billion.Democrats chose to tax everything from cigarettes to job-creating corporations in their zeal to grow government and attempt to increase their grip on the lowly taxpayers and residents of Connecticut. Despite paying lip service to looking out for “working families,” Democrats have initialized a 10 percent surcharge on corporations like Pratt and Whitney, among others. So Pratt indicates it may leave the state (and take thousands of jobs with them) due to the onerous and burdensome taxes and regulations, and the Democrats pile another tax on them, all the while claiming to be “fighting” to keep Pratt in Connecticut. The film tax credit program recently put into place has been one of the few bright spots in our economy. Read the rest of this entry »
